As we celebrate Sleep Week and Respiratory Care Week, it's the perfect time to reflect on the journey of Alex, Cuready's Director of Operations, a dedicated professional who embodies the spirit of both fields. Graduating with a degree in respiratory therapy in 2015, Alex has worn many hats throughout her career, impacting the lives of countless patients along the way. Now, she is using her expertise in patient care in a different way by always advocating for her fellow healthcare professionals and doing her part to connect hospitals and clinicians to ensure the highest standard of patient care is being met.

Â
From Respiratory Therapist to Sleep Technologist
Alex’s career began in the bustling environment of a hospital, where she gained invaluable experience across various departments. From the adult floor to the Adult ICU, and even working with the most vulnerable patients in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), she honed her skills and deepened her understanding of respiratory care. Each shift brought new challenges and triumphs, and her compassion for patients shone through in every interaction.
After a few rewarding years in respiratory therapy, Alex discovered her passion for sleep technology. Transitioning into this specialty allowed her to combine her clinical expertise with her fascination for the science of sleep. As a Sleep Technologist, she embraced every aspect of sleep medicine by conducting sleep studies and working closely with patients and physicians to diagnose and determine therapy for a variety of sleep disorders. The knowledge that she was helping patients achieve better sleep—and, consequently, better health—brought her immense satisfaction.

The Importance of Sleep and Respiratory Care
Both sleep and respiratory health are crucial components of overall well-being. Sleep disorders can significantly impact a person's quality of life, affecting everything from mood and cognitive function to physical health. As a Sleep Technologist, Alex has been on the front lines, working to help diagnose and treat conditions like sleep apnea, insomnia, and narcolepsy. Her role is vital in guiding patients toward better sleep hygiene and treatment options that can transform their lives.
Simultaneously, respiratory therapists play an essential role in managing patients' respiratory health, whether through mechanical ventilation, nebulization, or patient education. Their expertise is vital in acute care settings and outpatient services alike. During Alex’s time in various hospital departments, she witnessed firsthand the impact respiratory therapists have on patient recovery and comfort.
